Have you vowed to get posting more regularly on LinkedIn?
Here’s the tips I give my clients to help you get started…
1) Be real and relevant
What has been the hot topic in your business this week? If people are talking about it off-line, it's probably a good online topic too.
2) Share YOUR knowledge and advice
Try not to worry about what others are posting. Post about what you know as if you're giving advice to a good friend. Plan 3 or 4 themes you feel confident talking about and stick to them.
3) Encourage meaningful comments... and give them too
Ask a question in your post to encourage others in your network to offer their viewpoint.
LinkedIn values meaningful comments from people in relevant fields, so the more comments on your post the further it will be shared. Commenting on others' posts in a meaningful way will also increase your reach.
4) Time your posts well
If people engage with your post in the first hour, it's likely to be shared by LinkedIn more widely. Think about posting at times when people are likely to be active on the platform - over breakfast, at lunchtime, on the train ride home.
5) Use an image
Posts with images grab attention, so always include a relevant pic.
It might feel uncomfortable, but using a selfie can be really effective. Humans are programmed to respond to faces from birth - think of it as virtual eye contact!
6) Tag the people and businesses involved
When you're talking about a project where you worked alongside others, remember to tag them using @ before their name. LinkedIn is all about connections and tagging colleagues and partners will help your post to reach a wider audience.
7) Make it a regular habit
LinkedIn will work best if you're consistent. Schedule slots in your diary to post twice a week and set aside 15 mins daily to comment on other people's posts too.
It just takes one post to start a good habit!
Everyone feels a little uncomfortable at first, but once you settle in to a routine LinkedIn can be a fantastic place to build relationships, increase the visibility of your business and find new customers.
