Word-up! OrganiSe or organiZe?

If you're writing a document in Word, putting together a social post on LinkedIn or creating an email in MailChimp, words ending in '-ise' often come up with that evil red-squiggle taunting you from underneath!

So, IS 'organise' spelt incorrectly? It LOOKS right, you think!

Here's the facts...

🔵 Most verbs with -ise/ize or -yse/yze at the end have Z in the American English spelling.

🔵 In British English, it's standard to use the S spelling.

The Z spelling is listed as an alternative for -ise words in British dictionaries, so technically you could argue either is correct.

BUT if you're writing for a primarily British audience it's probably better to stick with S so your customers don't think you just got it wrong!

It's the same for related nouns too such as, organisation/organization.

Here's a few examples...

organise / organize / organisation / organization

realise / realize / realisation / realization

recognise / recognize

authorise / authorize / authorisation / authorization

analyse / analyze

Let's hope that cleared it up!
