Word-up! YOUR vs YOU'RE

๐Ÿ™Œ Word-up! ๐Ÿ™Œ

This has GOT to be the word I notice misspelled on social posts more than any other...

YOUR vs YOU'RE

It's a super simple one to remember, but perhaps that's why it so often falls through the proof-reading gap - particularly if your posting in a hurry!

... see what I did there?

No?

That proves it then ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here's how to be sure you get it right...

๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น

Read your sentence replacing 'your/you're' with YOU ARE.

If it sounds right, choose YOU'RE.

If not, it's YOUR.

๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”น

YOU'RE is a contraction.

It's a shortening of YOU ARE with the ' in place of the A at the start of ARE.

YOUR is a possessive pronoun.

It's used to show that something belongs to you.

Some examples...

๐Ÿ”นThis is your laptop. (It belongs to you)

๐Ÿ”นIt's all your fault. (The fault belongs to you)

๐Ÿ”นCall me when you're free. (You are free)

๐Ÿ”นYou're welcome. (You are welcome)

Got it?

You're on your own now ๐Ÿ˜‰
